Where are They Now

Name: Emma Tidmarsh
Age: 19
Job title: Merchandising Distributor for Menswear, Debenhams.

My job involves working alongside the merchandisers and buyers to forecast sales and allocate stock to stores accordingly. On a daily basis I have to liaise with stores and warehouses and act as a link to head office. The job is fast paced with lots of responsibility, but enjoyable.

The Fashion Retail Academy has given me a good preparation for this role and great insight into the retail industry as a whole. I gained valuable knowledge both through the classes with industry experts and work experience on shop floor and head office.
I have been launched into the retail industry early making me the youngest member of staff in Merchandising (usually the jobs go to university graduates in their early twenties) so I feel the Academy has helped me make a great start in my dream career.

Name: Ahmed Khan
Age: 18 years old
Job title: Sales Associate at Gieves & Hawkes

I was lucky enough to win the Tesco award for progress and outstanding achievement. During my last term at the Academy I sought full time employment within the fashion retail industry, I was supported and encouraged throughout by the tutors at the academy and I ended up with a few offers from retailers including Tesco, T. M. Lewin and Burton.

Through my work placement with T. M. Lewin, I was put in touch with Gieves & Hawkes at No1 Savile Row, and after three interviews I managed to secure a job as a Sales Associate and now I am looking forward to the knowledge that I will gain about all aspects of men’s tailoring as this is a great passion of mine.

I am hoping to pursue a career in store management. My time at the academy ensured that I was ready for my job by providing me with an insight into all aspects of the industry. The tutors at the college managed to pass on their knowledge from their experience in the industry with personality and charisma, creating a fun and exciting learning environment.
