I am an overseas applicant, how do I apply?

The Fashion Retail Academy does not currently have a Border License for students from outside the EU. For further information please contact us.

Do I need to have meet the entry requirements when I apply?

You do not need to have every entry requirement when making your initial application. However, you will need to be sure you can attain all requirements before you enrol and your course starts. If you are studying or re-taking a qualification you should show these as "pending" on your application form. You may need to collate a portfolio or gain some work experience (if required) and you can explain your progress with this at interview.

I have changed my mind about which course I want to study, but have already submitted an application, what can I do?

Please contact Student Administration immediately for advice.

Will I be interviewed?

If your written application is successful, you will be invited to come to the FRA for an interview. We can tell you more about the course, check that it is the one best suited for you and that you understand the course content and your commitment.

In exceptional circumstances we can arrange telephone or Skype interviews for those applicants who live far from London or in other countries.

If you have not attained all the entry requirements by the time of your interview y ou may be given a conditional offer, which means you must gain all the necessary qualifications stated in your offer before starting your studies at FRA.

How shall I prepare and what shall I bring to an interview?

Look at our website to get an understanding of what we can offer you at the FRA. Be sure you have read the relevant course page on the website to understand the course content and can talk about it at interview. Prepare some responses as to why you would like to join the course of your choice, what you hope to gain from the experience and what your next step will be. List your interests, talents and ambitions, whether course related or generally about you. Demonstrate your motivation for the course.

Some courses require you to bring along a portfolio of work and depending on the level of your course, you may be asked to prepare a very short presentation to demonstrate your knowledge and research skills. If this applies to you, it will be explained in your letter inviting you to an interview

I have done better / worse in my exams than I expected; can I change the level and/or course on which I have been offered a place?
Please enquire to see if there are places available on another course, we will do our best to accommodate you if we have places available

I needed particular grade/s to enrol on my course but I haven't achieved them, will I still be able to do my course?

Please get in touch as soon as your exam results are published, you may still be able to do that course with some conditions and we may be able to help or advise you.

I have just received my exam results, but have not yet applied for an FRA course, is it too late?

If you are applying for a Further Education course, contact us as soon as possible. We will let you know what course places are available, depending on the time of year.

If you are applying for a Higher Education course please check on the UCAS website for deadline application submission dates. You may have to wait for "Clearing" to open

How many hours will I study per week?

Further Education students have classes for approximately 12 - 18 hours per week, depending on the time of year and the course being studied. This is 'contact time', i.e. taught sessions with a tutor and these are timetabled over 4 - 5 days. In addition you will also be expected to complete further hours of independent study in the gaps between your timetabled classes. Some of this independent study requires you to use FRA IT, library, workshop and other facilities or be working on projects with other students. A few hours per week should be set aside for research and creation of assignments either here or at home.

Higher Education students will have fewer contact hours with tutors in class, but will be expected to put aside considerably more independent study time for reading, research and development of assessments

Which days of the week will I be studying on my course? What will my timetable be and when will I get my timetable?

Your group tutor will advise you of your timetable during your induction, after enrolment

The timetable for each day of the week is different. You might start at 9am one day and finish at 2.30pm and the next day start at 1pm and finish at 6pm. Timetables are given to you at the beginning of term so that you can plan your work commitments and other activities around your studies.

How much will a course cost per year?

I have received a letter inviting me in to enrol on my chosen course, but I am on holiday during enrolment week/s, what should I do?

Please try to take holidays before the enrolment and induction weeks, as these are important times for you to settle in to the FRA, make some new friends and get all the information you need to give you a head start. However, if you are in this situation, contact the Student Administration team to discuss with them. Failure to do this may result in losing your place on the course.

Does the FRA offer any bursaries?

Small bursaries are available after enrolment depending on personal circumstances and the student having demonstrated commitment to their studies
