Advanced preparation for a Career in Fashion Retail: Buying, Merchandising & Management

This 6-week course has been created for individuals currently working in the industry or graduates who would like to advance their career in fashion retail; with a particular focus on buying, merchandising and retail management.

The course provides a unique and in-depth insight into the retail business covering subjects such as:

• Analysis of retail organisations and business models
• Brands and image
• Retail roles and responsibilities - buyer, merchandiser, manager
• Buying and range-planning
• Merchandising
• Consumer behaviour
• Management skills
• Technology and the future of retail
• Core skills: interview, negotiation, presentation, team building, and networking
• Targeted CV preparation

The course makes full use of the FRA facilities and its many industry contacts to include industry lectures, store and head office visits and master classes. Opportunities are provided for networking and career planning, culminating in practise interviews conducted by HR specialists working in the industry. These include practise interviews and assessment centres with Arcadia.

60% of students who completed the last course are now working in the retail sector in a variety of roles.

Course requirements:
A degree qualification or considerable retail experience in sales.
NB. It is advisable to have some fashion retail experience, e.g. working on the shop floor in sales, placements or internships before the commencement of the course.
