FRA's Postgraduate Course - By Jaz Abeysekera

Postgraduate Student

I discovered the Postgraduate course at the Fashion Retail Academy a couple of years ago but decided the time wasn’t right for me to go back into education. Whilst travelling, I received a couple of marketing emails from the FRA and after deciding that I needed to sort out my career path, I signed up to the course, moved from Lincolnshire to London and couldn’t wait to begin. It was the best decision I made.

The postgraduate course has been amazing from start to finish. Our group really gelled and with only having 12 of us on it, it meant we really bonded and have become great friends. Throughout our time, we got great feedback and one-to-one time with our fabulous teachers who all come from the industry. It was great to hear about their experience and skills first hand. They passed on lots of their knowledge and gave us great hints and tips, and really felt like part of our friendship group, which was lovely.

We were involved in lots of different tasks from creating mood boards, to range planning and finding niche parts of the market and showing how we would promote them. I loved learning about the various roles within the fashion world and it has helped me be confident in my decision to go down the Fashion PR & Marketing route as a career.

During the 6 weeks, we have been on Head Office visits to Diesel, River Island, Lipsy & Debenhams, had master classes from WGSN, Zalando and F+F at Tesco, two assessment days with Arcadia and Fenwick, and even had a factory visit to Fashion Enter - all of which have helped us make great contacts within the industry. Fitting all of this in-between all of the teaching hours was a squeeze and certainly kept us on our toes but it has been the best 6 weeks and I would do it all again in a heart beat!
