Your Guide to Fashion Short Courses

Fashion Short Courses

It’s never too late to start doing something you love.

If you’re in a career that no longer feels right for you, you might feel confused or frustrated – but at the same time unable to see how you can shake things up. You might be frightened to retrain because of budget concerns, or you might be hesitant to move out of your comfort zone.

If that sounds like you, then don’t worry – you’re not alone. More people than you might think go through the same dilemma of wanting to change careers or industries but not knowing where to start. In fact, the Independent reported last year that almost half of the UK workforce is looking for a career change. However, there is a way to wake up on a Monday morning without that horrible sense of dread that comes with a job you don’t like.

If you love fashion and have been quietly considering it as a full-time career option for a while now, why not find out for sure? We think now is the perfect time to put yourself first and start following your passion.

The truth is, though, that further study, degrees and training courses can be expensive, and unfortunately that puts a lot of people off retraining for the career they really want. The good news is that there is a way that you can sample your chosen discipline before diving into a full-time course. Fashion short courses are the perfect way to get that first taste of what a career in fashion might entail. If you’re interested in fashion, and are curious as to whether you could follow your passion into a full-time career, read on!

What is a short fashion course?

A short course is basically an overall introduction to your specific area of interest, taking place over a number of days. These courses aim to cover the main themes and ideas you would learn about if you chose to go on to a longer course. It’s the perfect way to sample a new skill without the commitment (or healthy price tag!) of longer-term study. A short course also allows you to decipher whether or not you can turn your passion into a full time career, and provides you with a taster of what you can expect from a full-time course. Think of it as “try before you buy” scenario – it’s the ideal compromise, and the first step towards a new career that you can finally feel excited about.

Should I do a short course before enrolling in a longer course?

Once you’ve decided to make that all-important career change, it can be tempting to jump right into it with a full-time fashion degree or qualification. But if you’ve never studied fashion before, how can you know you’ve made the right course choice? Fashion specialties vary drastically, and so the course content varies to reflect this. For example, you’ll learn very different skills on our Digital Marketing for Fashion course than you would on Fashion Design. Don’t part with your time or money until you’re 100% sure that the course you’ve selected is relevant to the career you’d like to go into. Taking a short course can assure you of the right choice.

Alternatively, if you’re not quite sure which area you’d like to go into yet, taking one of our short fashion courses can illuminate which area interests you the most. In addition, you will gain hands-on experience in that area to take with you into your future career. You can even take a number of our courses to give yourself a really comprehensive overview of everything on offer to help you make the most informed choice.
