We believe the best way to become industry-ready is to learn directly from the people working in it. At the Fashion Retail Academy, our industry mentors bring current experience, real insight and practical advice from across the fashion sector.

We spoke to Nur Ayni, BA (Hons) Fashion Business student, to find out what it’s really like to have an industry mentor and how it has supported her so far.

Who Receives An Industry Mentor?

At the FRA, we match every qualifying undergraduate student with their own dedicated industry mentor*.

You’ll meet with your mentor at least once a term. They’re there to offer guidance, support and real insight into working life in the fashion industry. This includes sharing their own career journey, advice on next steps, and practical tips to help you prepare for employment.

Current students are working with mentors from brands like Jigsaw, Whistles, Burberry and Lipsy.

* T&Cs apply. Students will be provided with qualifying criteria in the September of their first year

Hear from one of our current students

Nur Ayni, BA (Hons) Fashion Business student is currently mentored by Barbara Mendel EMEA Retail Director of Marc Jacobs. She shared how her mentor has supported her through industry insight, networking advice and interview preparation for real job applications.

She’s really taught me that learning never ends, that your skillset should always be evolving and how you should never stay stagnant for a long period of time no matter your position. - Nur Ayni, BA (Hons) Fashion Business student

She also spoke about how the mentoring experience has helped build her confidence and shaped her understanding of the industry:

It’s definitely steered my understanding on the dos and dont's of the industry and how properly knowing your own skill sets can leverage your individual value to a company! - Nur Ayni, BA (Hons) Fashion Business student

Advice for students considering a degree

When asked what advice she would give to others thinking about studying at the FRA, Nur Ayni said:

Don’t be close minded to what an opportunity can offer, doesn’t matter if it’s not in the field you wanted to be in those contacts are endless in new opportunities. - Nur Ayni, BA (Hons) Fashion Business student
