At the FRA, we provide our students with exciting, real-world projects that are creative, challenging and industry-relevant. One recent example of this is a project completed by Mia Laslett, one of our current BA (Hons) Marketing and Communication for Fashion students.

The Project Brief

As part of the brief, students were asked to:

  • Conduct an in-depth analysis of two chosen brands within the same market
  • Evaluate each brand's existing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives
  • Develop a new innovative CSR strategy for each brand
  • Create a 30 to 60 second reel for each brand to communicate their new CSR strategy
  • Focus on sustainability or inclusivity, while aligning with each brand's unique identity

Mia's Approach

Mia chose to explore both sustainability and inclusivity for her project, selecting Lululemon and Alo Yoga - two brands within the premium athleisure market.

She chose these brands as she felt they offered strong platforms to promote these key issues. Her reasoning was that yoga is rooted in mindfulness, wellbeing and ethical living, making them more receptive to CSR messages.

What I most enjoyed about this project was being able to choose my own brands that I felt I could work best with and have creative freedom to come up with new ideas for each brand. I also enjoyed being able to visit each brand's store to gather research. - Mia Laslett, BA (Hons) Marketing & Communications for Fashion student

Key Takeaways

One of Mia's biggest takeaways was understanding the importance of CSR initiatives in businesses today and how a lack of focus on these can negatively impact a brand.

This project made me realise more about what goes on behind closed doors which I found really interesting. - Mia, BA (Hons) Marketing & Communications for Fashion

Mia also highlighted the ongoing guidance she received from her tutors throughout the process:

My tutors were very supportive during the project, providing valuable sources for us to use for our research and helping us understand more about CSR and what it means, as well as how it could work for each of our individual ideas. My tutors were happy to read over my work however many times to support me in this project and help strengthen my work. - Mia Laslett, BA (Hons) Marketing & Communications for Fashion

Next Steps for Mia

Mia is set to graduate from the BA (Hons) Marketing & Communication for Fashion degree in 2026. She plans to make the most of connections she's developed at the FRA and aims to gain experience through internships or within a junior role.

Although she is studying marketing and communications, she says the course has given her a wide range of transferable skills that can be applied across various parts of the industry.

Mia's Advice for Prospective Students

Mia advises those looking into studying at the Fashion Retail Academy to:

Do it! Studying at the FRA has given me confidence about starting in the industry and has opened my eyes to all the different roles I can do with this degree. I would also say, keep connecting. These connections will come in so handy when doing projects or even after your time at uni. - Mia, BA (Hons) Marketing & Communications for Fashion
