Thinking about a career in fashion? At the Fashion Retail Academy, our students don't just learn about the industry - they learn about its future.

We recently spoke with Yasmin Bramble, a final-year student on our BA (Hons) Buying & Merchandising course, who created an exciting project forecasting what fashion could look like by the year 2030. From the rise of digital fashion to evolving views on sustainability and identity, her project shows just how creative and forward-thinking our students are.

A Self-Directed Brief With Creative Freedom

For her Personal Professional Project, Yasmin was given freedom to create her own brief. She decided to explore how fashion might evolve by the end of the decade, focusing on key changes in consumer behaviour, technology and sustainability.

I’ve always been interested by how fashion reflects wider cultural and technological shifts. I was inspired by the growing influence of AI, digital fashion, and the shift in consumer values around sustainability and identity. I wanted to create something that explored all those layers in a visually engaging way. - Yasmin Bramble, BA (Hons) Buying & Merchandising student

Instead of a traditional report, Yasmin chose to present her findings as a digital magazine, blending storytelling, visuals and research in one creative output.

Blending Research and Creative Direction

This was Yasmin's first opportunity to bring together trend forecasting and creative direction, which is something she found both challenging and exciting.

It was the first time I got to combine trend forecasting with creative direction. I loved pulling together research, mood boards, and visuals to tell a story about where fashion is heading, it really felt like I was building something, not just doing an assignment. - Yasmin, Buying & Merchandising student

Her tutors supported her through the process, challenging her to deepen her research and think more critically about how to present her ideas commercially.

Digging Deeper With Trends

One of Yasmin's biggest takeaways was learning to look beyond surface-level trends and into the factors that drive them - like global events, cultural shifts and technology.

I realised how important it is to look beyond just what’s trending and dig into why it’s trending - social, economic, environmental factors all play a part. It also showed me how powerful storytelling is in fashion, especially when you’re trying to influence or inspire future thinking. - Yasmin Bramble, BA (Hons) Buying & Merchandising student

What's Next for Yasmin?

During her time at the FRA, Yasmin completed a placement with a company she found through the FRA, The A List. Now that she's preparing to graduate, she is looking to move into a junior role in fashion buying or as an Assistant Fashion Stylist with the same company.

Yasmin's Advice for Future Students

For those considering the BA (Hons) Buying & Merchandising course, Yasmin shared this advice:

It is definitely worth it if you’re ready to work hard and be curious. The course gives you a good foundation in the commercial side of fashion, but you get the most out of it when you bring your own creativity and perspective to it. - Yasmin, BA (Hons) Buying & Merchandising student

Ready to explore the future of fashion and shape your own creative journey? Our BA (Hons) Buying & Merchandising course gives you the tools, freedom and industry connections to take that next step.
