Our BA (Hons) Marketing & Communication for Fashion students were recently challenged to create a full digital and visual communication campaign for ASOS. This included developing a creative concept supported by stratified, paid, owned, and earned media, to create visual mock ups, a 30 second campaign video and two 10 second reels. To get there, students carried out extensive brand and consumer research to ensure their concepts aligned with ASOS and effectively engaged online audiences.

The students with the strongest ideas were invited to present their concepts directly to the ASOS team at their headquarters. Hear from Brooke Anderson, as she reflects on her experience!

How Did It Feel To Get Chosen?

Brooke shared:

I was initially quite shocked to find that I had been selected to present at ASOS HQ after seeing some of the amazing work produced by other students, but I felt so grateful that my work had been recognised. I was excited to have the opportunity to speak to the team at ASOS about it as I had put so much hard work into this project.

What was it like walking into ASOS HQ for the first time?

Walking into ASOS HQ for the first time came with a mix of nerves and excitement. Brooke explained that she wasn't sure what to expect, but found comfort in being surrounded by fellow students who were all sharing the same experience and supporting one another.

Everyone we spoke with at ASOS were so lovely and made us feel welcome, which helped to put my mind at ease!

Skills Gained

This experience played a key role in helping Brooke develop her confidence and communication skills.

As someone who struggles with nerves and anxiety, presenting in front of others is something I am always apprehensive about, especially knowing how important it is in industry, but this experience really helped boost my confidence and I feel more equipped to present in the future.

Seeing her work displayed on the screen at ASOS HQ, and receiving direct feedback from industry professionals, was a real moment of achievement.

It felt really rewarding to see my work on the screen at ASOS and have the opportunity to talk to industry professionals about my ideas and hear their feedback in person.

Feedback From the ASOS Team

Brooke reflected on how valuable it was to have her work reviewed by industry experts who were fully engaged with her concepts.

I noticed the team were fully engaged with my presentation and really listened to what I had to say, so it was nice to get detailed feedback that related to current ASOS projects and other things the team are currently working on - it helped me visualise how my work and ideas would apply to industry.

Brooke’s Advice for Future Students

Don’t doubt your ideas! I would never have expected to be selected purely due to comparison and my own self doubt. Looking back, I never should have doubted my ideas for this project as they were the same ones that led me to be selected. It’s taught me that you don’t always know what people might be looking for and it’s important to trust your vision, especially for creative projects like these.
