Traineeship Programme

The FRA Traineeship is a twelve-week skills development programme intended to help 16- to 18-year-olds gain work experience and provide a stepping stone to secure an Apprenticeship or a job.  

This fully-funded programme includes a high-quality work placement tailored to your needs and interests. You will gain a Work Skills qualification which covers CV writing, interview techniques, job search skills, online presence and digital skills.  If you have not achieved GCSE A*- C (9 - 4) in English and Maths, you will be supported to progress in whichever subject(s) you need to develop.  

Our model at FRA offers a two-week settling in period, which we use to match you with a retailer to suit your individual training and employment needs.  You will be placed with one of our retail partners such as British Red Cross, Scope and N16 Vintage. While studying at the FRA, all your travel expenses will be paid, and travel and lunch expenses will be paid while you are on work placement.    

Upon completion of your work placement, you will receive an employer reference to help you take the next step. Our Career Service will support with progression options to Apprenticeship Programmes, Jobs or Further Education.

  • 16 - 18 year olds
  • Must be eligible to work in England
  • Must be living in Greater London
  • Possess qualifications up to Level 3 (qualifications from college or sixth form)
  • Have little or no work experience, unsure of your skills but keen to work
  • Unemployed or working less than 16 hours a week

Yes, you will work towards Level 1 Award in Work Skills which includes understanding customer service, working in a team, problem solving and time management. If you haven’t achieved GCSE qualifications, you will also work towards Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths qualifications.

British Red Cross, Generation Digital Trainee

You will be volunteering to undertake remote sessions in the first instance, supporting vulnerable people, with building their digital skills to enable them to feel less isolated and lonely. The people needing help will be referred by internal British Red Cross Services and through partner organisations.

eBay Volunteer 

You will be providing invaluable help in the operation of our E-bay centre by researching items to set the best price for sale on our eBay shop, photographing, listing and preparing items for delivery, ensuring items are complete and much more. By doing this you can support us in raising funds that will help people in crisis at home and abroad.
