Congratulations to Jasmine Field, who has won a silver medal in Visual Merchandising at the EuroSkills competition in Lille, France! Jasmine graduated from Level 4 Visual Merchandising at the Fashion Retail Academy in July 2014 and now works for Marks & Spencer

The EuroSkills competition is about recognising young talent in the workplace. Winners go on to compete in the World Skills final in Sao Paulo in August.

“Competing in front of 120,000 visitors alongside 415 other competitors in 40 different skills is the most intense but exciting thing I’ve ever experienced,” said Jasmine. “I can’t even begin to explain the emotions I felt. You want to do the best you can to get the most out of competing. No matter the result, you can come home with a sense of achievement.”

The competition took place over three days. To start, teams were given a theme for a window display. Then they had to research ideas and develop some concepts for what their window would look like, before preparing props and bringing their best idea to life.

“Over the three days, the competition really tested our limits. But we fought back from all obstacles and proved how we could keep calm under pressure!” said Jasmine.

Team UK won the praise of many industry professionals. Michael Osabaldeston, Skills Adviser at City & Guilds said, “events like EuroSkills play an important role connecting skills and jobs to help people progress in their careers. They bring them to life by showcasing exceptionally talented individuals. By celebrating excellence, we can raise standards in teaching and learning across the world. All competitors should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved. They are undoubtedly an inspiration to others, and I know every one of them has a bright career ahead.”

Skills Minister of the UK, Nick Boles, also gave his congratulations to Team UK, for delivering “an outstanding performance at EuroSkills 2014. They have demonstrated that when it comes to skills the UK has world-class ability.”
