Fashion Retail Academy Open Days – Why You Should Attend

FRA Lecture Theatre

Why you should attend an FRA open day

Thinking of applying to the FRA, but unsure of the next steps? Attending one of our open days can be a great way to learn more about our leading fashion college. We run regular open days throughout the year, which are designed to answer any questions you may have and get you excited to study at the FRA.

We’d love for you to come and visit us. Here are just a few more reasons to attend an FRA open day.

Take a look around the state-of-the-art building

The Fashion Retail Academy is based near Soho, and easily accessible by public transport: we’re close to Oxford Street, Tottenham Court Road, and Goodge Street tube stations as well as national rail stations. Come along to an open day to test out your future route from home to the college.

You’ll also get to have a look around our building and its new-and-improved facilities. We recently underwent a huge £2 million makeover, which includes a brand new Mac suite in the Digital Hub, dedicated quiet zones to study in, an extensive specialist library, a new technology suite, hot desks and an exclusive pop-up shop, designed to introduce students to a real-life retail environment. Sometimes it’s tricky to imagine the reality of something from a website, so we encourage you to come and check out the FRA campus for yourself. See where you’ll be studying and get inspired!

Meet course leaders, tutors and the people who will shape your career

At the FRA, we consider our tutors and course leaders to be our greatest asset. Before becoming teachers, many worked in the fashion retail field themselves (many still do). They come from disciplines like design, buying and visual merchandising, travelling the world and working alongside some of the world’s most-recognised brands. As a result, they have a huge amount of knowledge and experience to share with students.

By coming to an open day, you’ll ease any nerves by putting faces to names. You’ll find out more about your syllabus and the teaching style of our tutors. Come along to an open day and meet your future mentors.

Meet and learn from current students

You’ll also have the opportunity to meet and chat with a number of students who are currently studying with us. This is your chance to ask all of those burning questions, from study tips to accommodation and logistic.

Don’t leave anything out: what’s the best thing about studying at the FRA? How challenging are the modules? What are their future career prospects? You may have questions about funding, costs, and lifestyle that you can’t find the answers to anywhere else. Learning from people who are doing your intended course will allow you to visualise yourself at the FRA.

Get more information about our courses

If you’re not quite sure what fashion retail area you’d like to pursue yet, chatting to students and tutors about the details of their course can help to illuminate this for you. There are no better people to advise you than the students doing your future course right now, or the ones who teach it!

Having as much information as possible about your course options will ensure that you make the right choice when you come to study with us. After an open day, you might change your mind or discover a new area or module you hadn’t considered before.

Hear from alumni students

As well as current students, you’ll meet some of our success stories – the FRA alumni. These are the just some of the students who graduated and managed to land their dream fashion retail job. You’ll hear all about their FRA experience, and how they made the transition into the career they’re in now. Pick up job-hunting tips, ways to nail that interview and potential career routes for your chosen course. Remember: that could be you in just a few years.

Get a taste of student life

While the course you choose to study at the FRA is obviously incredibly important, so is the student lifestyle and community you’ll be a part of. Take a little time to explore the surrounding area around the college. Our central London location places us right in the thick of things: we’re steps away from cafes, shops, restaurants, and bars. Wander further afield to find gyms, cinemas and music venues.

Also, check out the library (where you’re likely to spend more than a few hours!) and the study spaces dotted around our building. This will enable you to visualise what a typical day might look like during your course at the FRA.

Be brave and reach out to other prospective students at the open day – it’s more than likely they the same interests and aspirations that you do. Who knows, you might meet some new friends before you even start your course. That’s a sure-fire way to make the first day feel a little less daunting!

Talk to retail partners

Here at the Fashion Retail Academy, we’re partnered with 130 retail brands, who work with us to provide master classes, industry projects, work placements, and recruitment opportunities. These brands include ASOS, Gap, H&M, Next and many, many more.

Being exposed to such well-established a high-profile brands during your course not only gives you hands-on experience but those all-important contacts you need to get started in the industry. At an FRA open day, you’ll have the exclusive opportunity to hear from these brands. They’ll cover more about how they work with us to teach students, as well as what they look for in graduates and the kind of roles they recruit. Trust us; you don’t want to miss that.
