FRA nominated for 'FE Leader of the Year'

The Fashion Retail Academy are pleased to announce that Lee Lucas, FRA Principal & CEO has been nominated for a TES FE Award for ‘FE Leader of Year’! Lee Lucas became Principal & CEO at the Fashion Retail Academy in September 2014, with educational expertise across a wide portfolio of vocational fields, Lee specialises in the creation of industry responsive qualifications, technical skills training.  Over his 14-year career in further education Lee has spearheaded industry-led jewellery, craft, retail and IT professional qualifications.

In our recent Ofsted Inspection, Leadership and Management was graded Outstanding, in fact, we are the first college in London to receive an overall Outstanding grade under the new common inspection framework and the first in the country to receive an Outstanding grade in all areas. This is an achievement that we are all immensely proud of and Lee has encouraged every member of the Academy to feel empowered by this result as a true team effort. Though, we all recognise that such a success would not be possible without the truly exceptional leadership that Lee has brought to the FRA.

Lee’s passion and enthusiasm is infectious, it motivates staff and students to achieve their full potential. He is influential in bringing together the extremely competitive retail industry to achieve a shared goal; to develop and inspire talent for a specialist career in fashion retail.

Lee has been the driving force for change and innovation, future proofing the FRA to ensure that we are relevant and addressing the needs of the fashion retail industry that we serve. His vision and ability to inspire others has seen him successfully lead on a unique state of the nation research project supported by OC&C Strategy Consultants to establish how changes in the industry over the next ten years will impact the resource requirements and how educational institutions, retailers and government can work together to ensure the industry remains as innovative and forward focussed as ever. This project is the first of its kind and in response to this research Lee, with his team, have now formulated a curriculum strategy to enable employers to fill the emerging skills gaps and offset the negative trends impacting the retail industry.

Lee is always working one step ahead in responding to industry needs and in 2015/16 he also worked in partnership with Accenture to jointly design a ‘digital skills’ course to equip students with the relevant knowledge and skills to take an entry level digital role within the fashion retail industry upon qualification.

Lee has made countless positive changes such as securing donations for the refurbishment of our building to create a fit for purpose modern learning environment. He has redefined our curriculum delivery model to ensure the highest quality curriculum and guarantee the best possible outcomes for our students in order to accomplish their career ambitions.

“Lee was a key part in my personal and professional development during my short year at the Fashion Retail Academy. When taking on my role of student Vice President, Lee provided excellent opportunities for me to develop myself and grow in confidence before heading out into industry. These opportunities would not have been open to me had he not been the principle of the FRA. The responsibility he afforded me and the Student President to build a student council, affected the rest of the FRA students. Their student voices were heard also and were acted upon. Lee had a very positive impact on all of the students.”
