Retail Week Event

I love surrounding myself with inspirational individuals in the fashion industry, especially women. Two weeks ago I was invited along with the FRA (Fashion Retail Academy, if you haven't heard me talk about it enough already) to the Retail Week Be Inspired Launch that took place at the gorgeous Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Hyde Park.

The evening was to celebrate female leaders within the industry and you know I love a good networking opportunity. It felt incredible to be invited to an event like this at the age of just 20 and be surrounded by some of the biggest names in fashion.

The be inspired campaign I learnt is one of the most important initiatives that Retail Week has ever undertaken and has the potential to not only meet head on the issue of gender diversity in the sector, but to help develop the next generation of retail leaders. Which is me wooo. Be Inspired aims to explore the vast career potential of women in retail, so come on girls we got this.

Believe it or not, the industry doesn't lack talented women (duh) but why is there so few that make it to the top!? The proportion of newly appointed female leaders fell from 25% in 2014 to just 15% in 2016, it's not looking good is it!? This is why I strongly support the Be Inspired campaign and again feel privileged to have enjoyed the launch of it.

Gender should be irrelevant, men and women should support each other and I completely support ambassador and Ann Summers Managing Director Jacqueline Gold stated that "It's all about empowering and encouraging career focused individuals to become the leaders of tomorrow"

Funnily enough my secondary school motto was 'Learners of today, Leaders of tomorrow' I feel like its engraved in my brain forever now!

What I love most about the campaign launch night was there was actually a number of males there supporting the event.

The list of campaign ambassadors is as long as my arm and these women have all made it to the top and I can't wait to one day be in their position and make a difference to the industry.

Thank you to Hannah Burnel who got in contact and invited me and of course the rest of the team for making the night a success! Read the article HERE by Charlotte Hardie to find out more about the campaign.

I'm so looking forward to the future!

Love, Sam xxx
