Edge Foundation have recently contacted one of our former FRA students, Ben Scanlon as part of their #followmyfootsteps campaign. Read below to find out more!
#followmyfootsteps I love my job because I get to work with amazing brands and do what I love everyday'
With 13 GCSEs and 3 A-levels Ben could have had his pick of universities but instead he followed his passion for fashion and took up a place at the Fashion Retail Academy. Ben studied Level 4 Buying and Range Planning and when he finished his course he landed his dream job for online menswear retailer, The Idle Man.
‘I'm a big fan of Career Footsteps; everyone should have the knowledge and opportunity to make a decision that’s right for them. I thought about university but it seemed crazy to saddle myself with three years’ worth of debt when I could be out there living my dream and earning money within one year.'
Ben works in the buying team, assisting with the selection of branded products to sell throughout the seasons. Each day is different but he gets to work with big brands such as Levi’s, Calvin Klein, Edwin and Billionaire Boys Club and he’s even attended catwalk shows at London Collections: Men.
'I'm working in the industry I love, with brands I admire and people who are constantly teaching me new things. None of this would have been possible without my course at the Fashion Retail Academy. It taught me so much about the workings of the fashion world and gave me real life experience.’
