This well-rounded, varied and wide-ranging course is one-year in length and is unique in that it covers the whole lifecycle of a product from head office to shop floor. If you’re looking to get into fashion retail and want to find out how our L4 Fashion Retail Marketing and Business course can help get you there, read on.

What will I learn on the L4 Fashion Retail (Marketing and Business) course?

This is one of the most comprehensive and versatile courses that we offer here at the FRA. We’ve created it to equip our students with a solid base of knowledge that spans the fashion retail supply chain, so that whatever you choose to do next, you’re well-informed about what’s happening elsewhere in the industry. Ultimately, you’ll gain a clear picture of the retail landscape, all the way from concept to consumer. You’ll learn about store operations, management, analytics, and much more. Additional topics covered include:

  • Buying
  • Visual merchandising
  • Merchandising
  • Digital skills

Your course will begin with a contextualising history of fashion retail module, delving into both historical and cultural influences. You’ll then get an introduction to consumer behaviour and buying habits, learning how to increase customer loyalty using marketing and branding. You’ll be introduced to core digital marketing principles such as analytics, and start to appreciate how customers consume brand messaging across platforms. You’ll be made aware of the commercial challenges fashion brands face, too, and learn how to analyse data to inform business strategy.

The course is highly practical, designed to equip you with practical life skills to help you transition seamlessly from college to career. As well as theoretical classroom learning, you’ll receive interview training as well as guidance on compiling your portfolio. As such, your day to day life during the course is varied and exciting. One day you might be shopping on Oxford Street to experience real-world retail environments, and the next you’ll be getting stuck into customer profiling to help you understand target markets.

Another essential practical element of the course is the three-week placement. Undertaking this placement with an established retail brand will give you essential contacts to take with you into your career. You’ll also be set an industry project by a well-known brand, during which time you can start to put the skills you’ve learned into practice. Having already had experience working for a fashion brand will give you a real edge when it comes to applying for graduate roles. Speaking of which…

What jobs will I be qualified for following the L4 Fashion Retail (Marketing and Business) course?

You might think that a degree in fashion retail simply prepares you for a career on the shop floor. And while it certainly does, if this is what you’re aiming for, it also sets you up well for a whole host of other job opportunities throughout the fashion retail supply chain. Upon finishing this course, you’ll be qualified for a number of roles, including (but not limited to):

  • Buying
  • Merchandising
  • Digital marketing
  • Visual merchandising
  • Ecommerce and marketing and business

Entrepreneurship is an increasingly popular route in fashion and retail, and this course thoroughly prepares you for setting up your own fashion label or business. You’ll have exclusive insight into how to identify potential target markets and implement a successful business plan to help give you a kickstart in those crucial early stages.
